Originally from Russia, then the Bay Area, I now live in beautiful Sacramento, California. I loved to move since my first ballet class when I was four years old. Years later, I found myself at gyms, Pilates studios, running on roads and trails, in spin rooms, lifting weights, and watching my dad throw Kettlebells around like nobody’s business. I pursued it all and loved to train.
I did not start out as a fitness expert – for years I did it all on the side while in a really high stress career in politics.
Fast forward a few years and I realized that to add significant value into this world and do something I truly believe and stand for, I need to take everything I learned about fitness, get the best education, use my experience and pass it on to you. I quit my 9-5 and pursued top-notch education as a Comprehensive Pilates Trainer, created Maria Bardet Pilates, and became what I like to call myself, a fitness catalyst!
I don’t take myself too seriously, but take your workout seriously. With a fresh outlook on Pilates training, my classes are a powerful combination of mindful full-body sculpting of Pilates (either with Pilates equipment, or just a mat) and heart-rate raising cardio intervals in an energetic small group environment. I have designed classes that will both make you sweat and smile.
And most importantly, I dedicate myself to supporting and inspiring you to commit yourself to a fit lifestyle. It’s not just a class, fit is who you are!

TAke care,
Katerina
Hi Katerina,
Congratulations on starting your training! I found 3 books particularly helpful with anatomy. They may not be absolutely necessary before starting your mat work training, but will be good references down the road:
Anatomy of Movement:http://www.amazon.com/Anatomy-Movement-Revised-Blandine-Calais-Germain/dp/0939616572
Anatomy of Pilates: http://www.amazon.com/Pilates-Anatomy-Rael-Isacowitz/dp/0736083863/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1359400361&sr=1-2&keywords=anatomy+of+pilates
Trail Guide to the Body:http://www.amazon.com/Trail-Guide-Body-Text-Workbook/dp/0982663471/ref=sr_1_5?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1359400394&sr=1-5&keywords=trail+guide+to+the+body
Anatomy of Movement: good resource of all the joints and bones and has descriptions and pictures of how the body moves. Not specific to Pilates but a wonderful resource.
Anatomy of Pilates: goes over typical mat exercises and explains cues and shows all the muscles in action.
Trail Guide to the Body: an in-depth guide with detailed pictures of muscles. Also not specific to Pilates and geared more toward massage therapists (showing how to palpate all the muscles). A great resource that will serve you well over time.
Good luck!
