Gift Guide 2013 – Gifts For An Athlete on Your List

Holiday Gift Guide 2013

Wasn’t it Thanksgiving just a few days ago? How is it already Christmas? And the New Year just two weeks away!

I must have slept through it because it really took me by surprise this year. If you are a procrastinator who loves to give and still have a fitness geek on your holiday shopping list, browse through. Some of these items are my favorites, some are still on my wish-list.

I included a broad price range – from pricey items to simple stocking stuffers.

Clothing and Accessories

Tieks by Gavrieli

Ballet flats with soul sole. The design is apparently out of this world – nice quality non-slip sole and padded just right.  What’s selling me  though is that the back of the Tieks are cushioned rather than elasticized to ensure that they are never too tight around the heel. Because of the price tag, they are still on my whish-list.

Here’s a tip: earn up to 20% off. Access www.tieks.com/holiday with code TIEKBLUE689F.

Shoes, again. But I can personally vouch for these. I’ve been wearing them for a year now. If you are a barefoot type of person, but you still want a little something for those feet during the winter time, these are delicious.

Downalicious Vest

Athleta is slowly becoming my go-to fitness store. I do love Solow as well (you are welcome), but the prices at Athleta are a little more friendly. This vest is perfect for chilly mornings – brisk walks, errands, and etc…

WAGs Workout Gloves

A few of my clients love these. If you do Pilates, especially pull-ups, press-ups, planks, and other hard-on-your-wrist exercises, these may become your best friend. Although using your wrists correctly is extremely important (and we should learn to do that), if you have specific wrist issues and want a little extra support, I’m a fan.

Training Programs

Lifestyle Transformation Program

This is my most comprehensive fitness and health program yet. If you are looking for a new plan for the new year and want to get on the right track with your goals – whether they are weight loss or general health and well-being, I will work with you for 6 weeks to get you there and give you all the tools to sustain your momentum on your own. You can buy this program as a gift, which will include a pass to the program and a FitBit. Visit the FAQ section of my website for details.

Technology

FitBit Wireless Tracker

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard about this handy wireless lifestyle tracker. This little toy has been flying of the shelves since Thanksgiving, so if you are looking for a last-minute gift, I doubt you’ll be able to snag one. Still, this is a great birthday gift for yourself 😉 or a loved one, especially as you start the new year. If you are planning on joining my new 6-Week Training Program you’ll get one as part of the membership. These bands track your steps, fitness activities, and sleep. You can also add your meals, water intake, and even set a silent alarm.

Polar Wireless Heart Rate Monitor with Sweet Beat App

What makes this Polar H6 Bluetooth Smart Heart Rate Sensor especially valuable is that it can wirelessly connect to your iPhone (and Droid, I am fairly certain). You can then buy a cheap app, like the Sweet Beat app (my favorite) and track your heart rate, heart rate variability, calories burned, and much more. Why do that? It’s a valuable tool for serious athletes – especially those of you training for races, triathlons, and consistently working out. It will tell you when to take your training up a notch and when to back off so you don’t become fatigued, over-trained, or burnt out. It will do this by tracking your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system via heart rate variability. It is really cool! You won’t need any sort of extra accessories – just the heart rate monitor and an app – since the sensor is already built into the heart rate monitor. I got one of these for my husband and he loves it.

Simple Stocking Stuffers

Race Registrations

If you’ve got a runner on the list, why not give them an entry to a race? If your loved one is serious about getting into running, there is no better motivator than a race. Shamrock’n Half Marathon (and 5K this year), is a great one because it’s especially hard to snag and fills up FAST. I guarantee they will appreciate it.

There are plenty more races at Capitol Road Race if you are in the Sacramento area.

Nordic Naturals, Algae Omega

Omega is the ideal vegetarian alternative to fish oil. Made from microalgae, it offers a plant-based source of beneficial marine omega-3s EPA and DHA without the use of fish. While most algae oils are short on EPA, Algae Omega’s unique combination of EPA and DHA is a pure, safe, and effective source of both of these essential fatty acids.

And even though this is a holiday gift guide full of stuff, I want to wish you a beautiful holiday – surrounded by the people you love. That’s all we really need, right?
