Pre-Workout (Gluten-Free, Vegan, + Raw) Breakfast Truffles – In the Kitchen with Flora Foodie

I’m so excited to share this video with you!

This weekend, my dear friend, Leslie Kolafa of Flora Foodie came over to my kitchen to share a special recipe. It is so easy and out of this world delicious!

When two, joke-cracking, vegan super-foodie bloggers come together, contagious laughter, Pilates sessions, vegan-recipe-video-making, instagram-ing madness, takes over the Bardet residence.

How I ended up with shredded coconut bits all over the house, including my Pilates mat, I don’t know. But I’m still finding remnants everywhere.

We had fun.

We also had the kind of fun that produces results.

In this case it was a video. For you.

Since I am a huge fan of home-made pre-workout snacks (not a fan of most gels or protein bars), I asked Leslie, the vegan mastermind, to share a quick recipe.

So she whipped up some gluten-free, vegan, and raw Breakfast Truffles. With the base of dates, cashews, and coconut, this little gem of a snack is perfect fuel pre-workout. Plus, this recipe is so easy and quick – the actual preparation time literally takes 5 minutes.

Here’s a story about dates

Dates provide a great carbohydrate source – perfect for immediate energy. Dates are best consumed right before, during or immediately after exercise. They are high in glucose, which is then rapidly converted to glycogen in the liver. Maintaining adequate glycogen supply in the both muscles and the liver is crucial for sustained energy.

Yes, other foods produce glycogen, but the beauty of a date is that it makes this conversion so quickly, making it an ideal snack to fuel any activity.

Now back to the video.

In this video, Leslie shows how to make these yummy truffles, and goes over recipe variations so anyone can enjoy them. YUM!

Make sure to watch the end to see our bloopers. You’ll see how much fun we had filming this!

To get the full recipe, and to browse through Leslie’s mouth-watering vegan eats, go to her blog. Not only does she get an award for creativity, but having eaten many of her treats, I can tell you they are always packed full of flavor.

Now go stock-up on some dates and make these morsels for your pre-workout fuel!

Maybe pop one right before your March Plank Challenge?

And check out Flora Foodie for more recipes. If want to see all the other truffle flavors you can make, Leslie got you covered. Check them out here.

      Hi Amery!

I’ve never tried these in the vitamix, and don’t it will work as well, mainly because I think the dates will clump up at the bottom without any liquid.
