Me and my running buddy, Stacy, in Folsom. Heading to the start line.
This picture doesn’t do this outfit justice. I had yellow plastic pants to go with the top. Stacy is wearing a very stylish black garbage bag. At this point, we were just laughing at the situation we were about to get ourselves into.
As the gun went off, I got rid of my bumble-bee outfit and continued on with shorts and a tank with a white garbage bag over the tank. The garbage bag was actually a genius idea. Because it was really warm but really wet, the light bag kept me dry for a while, without making me too hot.
My parents met me at mile 13 with smiles. I was so happy to see them! Then Eric appeared on his bike around mile 16 and then again a couple of miles later. I couldn’t believe he took his bike out in the rain to cheer me on.
Unfortunately, because it was pouring rain, there are no pictures of me at any of these points on the run.
At mile 20, the clouds opened up and the sun came out. Wish the sunshine came a little earlier!
Beautiful Sacramento trees.
And then I was spotted, again. The course runs right next to our house.
A few painful miles later, I saw my friends, Misa and Megan. Perfect timing! I just remember giving them a big hug and running on. They gave me the cheer I needed to finish strong!
Finished. Marathon #1.
Trying to remember how to walk again. Not going so well.
My parents, brother and Eric met me at the finish line, right next to the Capitol Christmas tree.
My amazing husband, who cheered me on the whole way.
After walking (slowly) back to the car, we met Team Veg at Plum Cafe for an all you can eat brunch. Lots of hugs stories, and pancakes.
A fellow marathon finisher, member/organizer of Team Veg, and friend Jedidiah Soliz, ran an impressive 2:50 marathon. Go Jed!
THANK YOU TO MY PARENTS, BROTHER, ERIC, FRIENDS, AND TEAM VEG FOR YOUR SUPPORT. IT WAS A RUN I WILL NEVER FORGET.
