Going Raw – Day 2
I don’t remember where I heard this, but someone once told me,
”fill your body with 1/3 water, and 1/3 food and 1/3 air”
I am definitely feeling the air. Not in the way that I’m hungry, but I just feel light (if that makes any sense).
I woke up much more rested than I did yesterday, but still a little more tired than I’d like after getting almost 8 hours of sleep.
I started my morning, as usual, with a cup of lemon water. After Pilates, I got my green smoothie going and had it when I got to work. It was hybrid between the Green Sidekick and Ashley’s Glowing Green Smoothie. This one had a bunch of fruits and veggies – my homemade almond milk, romaine, spinach, celery, cucumber, an apple, a frozen banana and a pear. As soon as I gulped it down, I was feeling good, and it carried me over straight to lunch.
I had a simple kale-avocado salad, with tomatoes and olives for lunch. I creamed the avocado in my food processor with a bit of olive oil, salt, a celery stalk, and lemon juice. Simple and delicious.
I continued to drink a ton of water today, but not as much as I did yesterday. I think it’s because I had more water filled fruits and veggies today. For an afternoon snack, I had a few celery sticks and thick tomato slices, and used the leftover cashew-macadamia nut sauce from last night’s dinner as a dip.
I worked right though the afternoon, at my usual fast pace and felt great. I did start craving something warm to drink so I had a cup of ginger tea with lemon. I really like the single packets of Organic Yogi Ginger Tea, which is a combination of ginger root, lemongrass, licorice root, and peppermint leaf. No caffeine, but perfect in the afternoon. You can also make ginger-lemon tea from scratch if you’d like (which I often do in the mornings) by grating fresh ginger and adding a squeeze of lemon juice and splash of honey into a mug of warm water. Ginger is excellent for digestion.
Today has been a much easier day than yesterday – I feel much less fatigued, clear-headed and I was able to stay more focused on work. The only wrinkle was meeting my friends for happy hour after work, and realizing that I will not be partaking in eating or drinking and that I’m HUNGRY. So, I headed home shortly after that, and made another raw creation for dinner.
Nori veggie wraps with a combination of mushrooms, cucumbers, carrots, celery and onions, in a simple lemon-mustard dressing. The food processor has been an essential piece of equipment for me over the past few days. I can shred 4 carrots in less than a minute! It’s the little things that make a hungry person eating raw, happy.
I think I’ll have a glass of vanilla almond milk with cinnamon or some more ginger tea before bed.
As a part of the cleanse experience, Ashley recommends many interesting self-care treatments. A nice relaxing bath with a scrub is one of them. So, an epsom salt bath is calling my name this evening. Bed time is 10:00 again.
See you for Day 3!
