I’m a morning person so getting out of bed and out the door is usually not too difficult for me. But I don’t really wake up (meaning that I’m at work, alert and digging through e-mails at my desk) unless I have my morning coffee. At 9 am on Monday through Friday you will usually find me guzzling my tumbler of homemade freshly brewed coffee. That’s a lot of caffeine! So, I decided to cut back just a bit and enjoy the benefits of tea instead.
This morning, I replaced my usual black with a cup of freshly brewed English Breakfast tea I picked up at Tea Cozy, a local tea shop. Although it’s a simple tea, the flavors were complex and it was perfect for the morning time. The caffeine kick was not quite the same, but I was still alert and didn’t have that jittery feeling I normally get with coffee. In the afternoon, I had a cup of Cocoa Loco Chai with frothy soy milk topped with a dash of cinnamon.
If you’re making the froth in the microwave, I discovered that the trick is to shake the milk you are planning on using in a closed container (like a jar with a lid) prior to putting it in the microwave. The Kitchen blog gives you some great pointers on how to make froth at home.
So good. I’m completely satisfied (for now). But I’m sure the coffee craving will kick in by tomorrow.
Do you have tips for taking a break from coffee?

That looks really good! I actually just quit caffeine altogether 3 weeks ago and I feel great (the first two weeks were pretty rough though!).
I do miss my morning cup a little but I don’t miss the afternoon and evening cups I had to have just to get though my day at all. I’m finding I have a lot more energy for my work outs now as well which is a plus.
Nothing tastes quite like a great cup of coffee though!
I agree, I really like the taste of coffee and absolutely adore my soy cappuccinos! At the same, I think it’s good to take a break once in a while. I feel like my energy levels are much more consistent throughout the day and I don’t have those caffeine spikes that make me crave more coffee in the afternoon.
